The night of the 2023 Oscars Awards witnessed many significant historical moments and many firsts, in several ways, for the entertainment industry worldwide. Read on to learn more about the top five best moments of the 2023 Oscars!
The whole world was quite excited and jumpy about the 95th Academy Awards, even more so after last year’s Chris Rock and Will Smith slapping incident. Everyone was curious to see how the Academy was going to pull off the event this time, as the ratings of the live awards show have reportedly been declining gradually.
By the way, what made the Oscars 2023 even more exciting was that many credible actors were nominated for the very first time this year, especially some Asian artists who had never been given this opportunity before. Overall, it was a very fun and seamless watch! So, here are some of the biggest moments from the 95th Academy Awards.
Michelle Yeoh Becomes The First Asian Woman Ever To Win An Oscar In The “Best Actress” Category:

Everything Everywhere All At Once lead actress, Michelle Yeoh, becomes the first Asian woman and second woman of color to take home an Oscar for the “Best Actress” category. Michelle has been one of the most versatile and credible actresses, both in Hollywood and Malaysian cinema. According to Wikipedia, in fact, she is the first-ever Malaysian actor to win an Oscar in any category.
Michelle’s speech at the 95th Academy Awards was a listening treat for everyone, especially Asian women with big dreams to make it into Hollywood. She says something along these lines, dedicating the award to her mother.
“Thank you so much. There is a ray of hope and opportunity for all the young children watching tonight that look like me. This demonstrates the adage “Dream big and your dreams will come true.” And ladies, don’t ever let someone convince you that your best years are behind you. Never surrender. As mothers are true superhumans, and without them, none of us would be in this room today, I must dedicate this to my mother, who’s 84 years old and watching me win this award back home right now. I’m taking this home to her.”
Ke Huy Quan Wins His First Oscar And Leaves Everyone Teary-Eyed With His Speech:
Another one of the most historic and beautiful moments at the Oscar 2023 was Ke Huy Quan winning his first Oscar, presented by Ariana DeBose, who was almost crying while announcing the award.
Ke Huy Quan started as a child actor in films like “The Goonies” and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” many years ago in Hollywood and mostly disappeared because of the lack of roles for Asian artists.
Ke Huy Quan was sobbing as he reached on stage and received his first-ever Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” in Everything Everything All At Once. The 51-year-old Vietnamese-American actor dedicated his award to her octogenarian mother and said (not verbatim):
“Some claim that tales like these only appear in movies. I’m shocked it’s happening to me. This is the American dream.”
Everything Everywhere All At Once Bags Seven Out Of Eleven Nominations:
Everything Everywhere All At Once wins seven golden statues at the Oscars 2023. The movie became the first to win six above-the-line Oscars when it won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
The science fiction thriller stands out massively over all the other movie nominations at the 95th Academy Awards. Every time when the movie won any category, the whole Dolby Theatre got filled with endless applause, accolades, and claps.
Naau Naatu Becomes the First Indian Song To Win An Oscar In The “Best Original Song” Category:

This year at the Oscars 2023 has been quite exciting for Indian cinema, especially for South Indian cinema. Naatu Naatu, a song from the movie RRR, becomes the first ever Indian song to win an Oscar under the “Best Original Song” category.
The whole team of RRR—Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, SS Rajamouli, and the song’s choreographers—were all there and received this great honor. Besides, Deepika Padukone also attended the 2023 Oscars as one of the presenters, opening the live performance of the Naatu Naatu song.
Host Jimmy Kimmel Cracks Jokes About The Last Year’s Will Smith Incident:
Jimmy Kimmel was the host of the 95th Academy Awards, and he didn’t let go of any opportunity to bring up last year’s infamous Will and Chris moment.
He cracked a lot of jokes about the whole scene that got created at the 94th Academy Awards when Will Smith also won the Best Actor award and gave a long speech crying and sobbing after slapping Chris Rock. Here are some of the funny punches made by Kimmel, leaving audiences giggling and awkward at the same time (verbatim):
“We want you to have fun, we want you to feel safe, and most importantly, we want me to feel safe. So we have strict policies in place. If anyone in this theatre commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and permitted to give a 19-minute-long speech.”
