Spider-Man Box Office: Strong Previews and Expectations for the Weekend. The animated sequel from Sony, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” has started off strong at the box office after almost five years. The movie made $17.35 million during previews on Thursday, laying the groundwork for what may be a very successful opening weekend.
According to projections, the opening weekend should bring in $80 million, with some predictions going as high as $90 million. Its predecessor, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” performed better with $35.4 million in its opening weekend and $3.5 million in Thursday previews.

“Across the Spider-Verse” has a good Thursday preview total, making it the second-highest-grossing animated film in terms of previews, only behind “The Incredibles 2” with $18.5 million. The movie also boasts the second-highest preview revenues of any “Spider-Man” movie, trailing only “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($50 million) in terms of record-breaking performances.

A number of the cast members from the original film will be making a return, including Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Shameik Moore as Miles Morales. Miles has accepted his duty as Spider-Man following the events of “Into the Spider-Verse,” and in the follow-up, he meets, even more, Spider-People, including Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), Spider-Man India (Karan Soni), and Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya).

“Across the Spider-Verse” has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and Spider-Man enthusiasts. Notably, the follow-up outperforms the already acclaimed “Into the Spider-Verse.” The movie, according to Variety’s top film critic Owen Gleiberman, is a “genuine spiritual companion piece to the first film” and he compliments it for having mind-blowing features that elevate the plot even more.
Spider-Verse Initiatives: The popularity of “Across the Spider-Verse” paves the way for even more thrilling endeavors. The release date for a third film, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” has already been set for March 29, 2024.
