ChatGPT has been in the news constantly since its launch and is getting bigger and bigger and getting more users as time passes. Many believe it has become a revolution in the field of already growing advanced artificial intelligence, taking things a notch higher than they actually were.
For example, previously, we could only use Google for our daily searches and queries, but now, with the help of ChatGPT, we can get everything ready-made. So, for instance, previously, when you wanted to know something about New Zealand, you would have to go through different resources indexed by Google.
However, that’s not the case anymore with ChatGPT. You just have to type New Zealand, and you will get a whole plethora of information in front of you about the country and many other important facets related to the same.
The bigger question is whether this is good for the human race or not. Is ChatGPT going to end the thinking abilities of humans? So, ChatGPT’s impact on society is a main concern. Before we dive into this, let’s go through a quick recap of what ChatGPT is and how it works.
What Is ChatGPT And How Does It Work?
ChatGPT is a chatbot based on an AI language processing model called Generative Pre-trained Transformer. That can provide the solutions to your queries in a matter of few seconds in a very human-like manner. Whenever the user feeds any query into this bot, the transform reverts the very coherent paragraph -based details from the already existing public datasets.
To use ChatGPT, you just have to visit https://chat.openai.com/ and create your account if you don’t have one already, and log in, it’s easy-breezy. Type whatever you want to learn about, and GPT presents the information in front of your eyes in seconds.
Not to mention, not every piece of information presented by this language-processing chatbot is correct and can be trusted blindly. There are errors reported by different users, and in some cases, one can also observe the pre-trained biases set in this GPT.
In case you don’t know, the story went viral when one user shared how when he tried ChatGPT to write a positive poem about Donald Trump, the chatbot was not able to.

However, when the same query was entered for Joe Biden, guess what? The GPT reverted back with a long, beautiful poem for the president.

ChatGPT’s Impact on Society
On top of political biases, ChatGPT can also be misused for data breaches and cyberbullying, and that’s a concern right there. Of course, things get easier, but at what cost? It can make people lose their jobs and increase unemployment, too.
Besides, many universities and educational campuses have already banned ChatGPT, as they think it’s bad for students and limits their learning curve. Also, according to many experts, using this chatbot can diminish the thinking abilities of humans and make them stuck in a sort of bubble, probably not based on a piece of very credible and trustworthy information.
ChatGPT’s impact on society can only be fully understood somewhere down the line. However, depending heavily on this AI’s instant spoonfeeding can definitely limit our creative cognition, making us fall prey to many more social issues in the future. Eventually, balancing the use of AI with authentic and credible human inputs is a must to make these advanced technologies work for us and not the other way around.
